    Abstract

The Malaysia: Well-Being and Labor Market Outcomes for Refugees in Malaysia (2023–2024) dataset is derived from the HARMONY Survey, the first large-scale, probability-based survey comparing refugee and host-community households in Malaysia. Conducted by UNHCR between December 2023 and April 2024 across Johor, Pulau Pinang, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur, the survey covers 3,967 households—including 2,533 refugee households and 1,434 host households—and collects detailed information on demographics, human capital, employment, income sources, living conditions, and access to services. The dataset provides evidence on refugees’ well-being and economic participation within Malaysia’s informal labor market and supports programme monitoring and analysis related to self-reliance and livelihood outcomes.
