    Abstract

More than 900,000 Rohingya refugees are living in extremely congested camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
Since their arrival in Bangladesh, they have been dependent on humanitarian aid for their survival, including food, core-relief items, shelter and other basic services.
The NFI Core Relief Item kits were distributed between November 2022 and May 2023 to 76,586 households. The NFI kits included CRH(20 KG), Female Hygiene Kit, Tote Bag, Solar lamp, White Kit Bag (Sand Bags), Jerry Can, Blanket, Sleeping Mats, Buckets, Mosquito Net, Bath Soap (Toilet Soap) Laundry Soap, Plastic Sheet (Tarpaulin) and Kitchen sets .
UNHCR conducted Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) to collect refugees’ feedback on the quality, sufficiency, utilization, and effectiveness of the assistance we provide, which helps improve and adapt the services as per the refugees’ needs. Shelter kits consisted of Tarpaulin, Trapaulin (Big), Borak (Untreated), Borak (Treated), Muli 3mm Rope (kg), 6mm Rope (kg), GI Wire (kg), Cement (bags), RCC/ Metal footing Nut bolt (8inch), Nut bolt (6inch), TDK (Set), Padlock (Set), Polythene (Kg), Ribbon (Kg), Sand (cft), Jute Bage (pcs), Brick Brick Chips(CFT), Red Oxide (Gallon), MS Angle (KG), and Insuline Foam (SFT).
For this PDM exercise, a mixed methodology incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methods was used. By qualitative method, FGD (Focus Group Discussion) disaggregated by gender and age were conducted with recipients of NFI and shelter material in 9 camps. 20 group discussions (9 male groups, 9 female groups and 2 GDP groups) took place in August 2023. Whereas by quantitative method, in-person survey with structured reviewed questionnaires for NFI and shelter recipients took place. A total of 1791 households were interviewed by trained independent enumerators from May 2023 in 17 refugee designated camp locations (16 camps in Cox’s Bazar and 1 Camp in Bhasan Char) where UNHCR and its partners distributed non-food items and shelter material.
The PDM survey found that items distributed by UNHCR and partners, including NFI items, WASH Hygiene kits, Female Hygiene kits and LPG generally met the declared household needs and the minimum quality standards for NFIs as approved by the Bangladesh Shelter/NFI Sector in Cox's Bazar. For most items, more than 80% said the quantity was sufficient, with the exception of mats, blankets, mosquito nets and soap.
