    Abstract

The 2024 Socio-Economic Insights Survey (SEIS) in Bulgaria was conducted to evaluate the urgent needs and demographic profiles of Ukrainian refugee households as part of a broader regional assessment across ten countries for the Ukraine Situation. With the endorsement of the National Statistics Institute and Bulgarian Council of Ministers, data collection took place from June to July 2024, targeting 1,055 households through randomized face-to-face interviews, primarily along the Black Sea coast where many refugees reside. Managed by Global Metrics Ltd., the survey highlights critical areas, including protection, health, livelihoods, education, and social cohesion, to support the 2025-26 Regional Refugee Response Plan with evidence-based insights for strategic interventions and enhanced refugee welfare in Bulgaria.

Interviews were conducted in person with heads of household or other consenting adult members, randomly selected from various localities, mainly along the Black Sea coast, where most Ukrainian refugees reside. A randomization procedure was applied within administrative level 3 data, and two separate microdata files were produced: one at the household level and one at the individual level.
