UNHCR Peru undertakes flow monitoring surveys of refugees and migrants to analyze their movement dynamics at the borders and at transit locations, their protection needs and vulnerabilities. For the most part, families in transit are walking or asking for hitchhiking to cross the borders using irregular routes, which increases protection risks along the way. The data is collected with the purpose of designing responses to mitigate protection risks.
The information in this dataset was collected during the first half of 2023 at the following locations: Madre de Dios, Puno, Tacna, Tumbes, and Lima. The results are not statistically representative and should be considered as a general indicator of the trends.
